Olivia’s 1st cold

I tried and tried to keep her from catching this nasty cold I’d been fighting for weeks.  She ended up getting it anyway.  The last three days have been a blur of steamy bathrooms, saline solution for her nose and the dreaded aspirator.   I took her to the doctor today to make sure her lungs were clear.  Thankfully they are.   That’s the thing about premature babies, though she got two steroid shots to help her lungs develop faster, you’re never really sure just how strong their lungs really are.  She is after all only 4 months old, but 2 months adjusted.  When Olivia was still in the NICU, there was a Maui baby that was finally going to be sent home after a 3 month stay.  Unfortunately he was back at Kapiolani less than a week later with pneumonia.  With Rachel, every sniffle made me worry…made me pray that her immune system and her lungs could handle it.  I am the same with Olivia.  It’s why the March of Dimes is so important…every baby needs to have their 9 months.
